Formed hundreds of miles below earth’s surface over a billion years, diamonds are the hardest natural material.  Dating back thousands of years, diamonds have embodied wealth, status, style, and eternal love . The allure of a diamond stems from its ability to retain luster, disperse light, as well as it’s rarity. In the early 1940’s, The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) created the first method for grading the quality of diamonds. This method, which describes a diamond using the 4 C’s: Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat Weight, is printed onto a certificate that is used to identify a diamond. The GIA certificate acts as the diamond’s fingerprint since no two are alike. A GIA certificate  is now used as the worldwide standard.
