How to Take the Perfect Engagement Ring Selfie

Getting engaged is one of the biggest milestones in your life. Naturally, you would want to share this significant moment by posting the perfect engagement ring selfie. You only have one shot, so make sure you post the best picture possible. As someone who photographs rings on a daily basis, I know a thing or two about taking a ring selfie. Here are some tips and tricks on how to perfect your engagement ring selfie.

1. Manicure- This might seem pretty obvious, but getting a manicure before your ring selfie is a must! Make sure you choose a timeless and complimentary color. You don’t want your manicure distracting away from the ring. For instance, polish your nails in a sophisticated dark red or an opaque pinky nude instead of a loud blue or green color. Also, make sure your hands are nice and moisturized before you snap your pic!

2. Lighting- Lighting is key when it comes to an engagement ring selfie. Contrary to popular belief, you should not take a ring selfie is direct sunlight. To make your diamond look brighter it is best to shoot away from the sun (or whatever light source you use) and the whiter your light source the better. I think the best lighting for ring selfies is overcast sunlight or even fluorescent lighting.

3. Clean- Another no-brainer! Make sure your ring is freshly polished and perfectly clean. Since you likely just got your ring you won’t have to go in for a professional cleaning. However, you might want to spruce it up with an at-home touch up. All you would have to do is soak your ring in a bowl of warm water and dawn dish soap. After letting your ring soak in the soapy water for a few minutes scrub it down under warm running water with a soft toothbrush, and pat dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. Just like that…TA-DA! Your ring will be photo ready.

4. Perfect Pose- There are many options when it comes to a ring selfie pose. My favorites tend to be a relaxed natural hand against either a solid background or a landscape background. Another great idea is to have the scene of the actual proposal in the background. Just keep in mind that since your ring will be the center of focus, your back drop might be a bit blurred (which is totally fine).

Keep these tips in mind before posting your engagement ring selfie!
